Student Assessment and Accountability Plan
Dear Parents/Guardians,
In April of 2010, the Governing Board of Hesperia Unified School District approved the Student Assessment and Accountability Plan to ensure that our district continues to make adequate progress towards meeting state and federal requirements under the No Child Left BehindAct. The Student Assessment and Accountability Plan’s main goal is to ensure that all students completing 7th and 8th grade have mastered the basic skills needed to be successful in high school. Please review the expectations and potential consequences highlighted below:
Expectations:
· Students are required to earn a minimum of 110 units in middle school; eighty of those units mustbe in the coreacademic areas. This means that students may not fail any of the core classes--language arts, math, science, social studies--over the course of the two years they are in middle school.
· Students must also achieve a 70% passage rate on end-of-year language arts and math benchmarks at the end of both 7th and 8th grades.
· Students must also meet minimum reading comprehension and math skill competency levels.
· Students with an Individualized Education Plan in place will be evaluated by reviewing progress using their individualized education goals.
· English Learners with an Individualized Learning Plan will be evaluated by reviewing their progress on meeting the goals in the plan.
Consequences:
Students who don’t pass their core classes and/or reach grade level proficiency during the school year will be required to participate in one or more of the following possible remedial programs:
o Intersession
o Summer school
o Targeted support programs
o Credit recovery programs
o A continuation school program
o Retention/repetition of the 8th grade
